Good Habits for our weekly group meetings

The purposes of our group meetings are to (a) discuss the science of your work,flash-out issues and problems and try to solve them or suggest approaches (b) discuss recent papers (c) report on recent conferences (d) brain storm on new ideas and opportunities.  We have the following standard  group meetings:

 1.  Friday 10.00- 12.00  Nanoscience ( Bester;Franceschetti;He;An;Narvaez)
 2.  Friday 2.30-4.40       Darpa - Magnetic semiconductors and IBS  ( Franceschetti;osorio;barabash ;Lany)
 3.  Thursday 2.30-4.30   Alloy Theory ( Barabash;Osorio;Chapulskyy;Trimarchi)

Everyone * can* attend any of these meetings, but if your name is on the list you * should*  attend .

Here are a few "Good Habits" to adopt :

1.MEETING  AGENGA: supplied by Bester ( Nanoscience) ,Franceschetti ( DARPA) and Barabash ( Alloy theory ) at LEAST 24 hours before the meeting ( e.g for the nanomeeting no later than 10.00 AM on Thursday).Agenda should include: (a) subjects to discuss and length of time ( everyone will talk;some will probably just say one sentence e,g "nothing to report") (b) 10-15 min for "brain storming" i.e any idea on your mind about interesting science (c) Conference report,if applicable (d) bring to the attention of others interesting recent papers ( send them via e mail first,if possible ) .Check with me also if I have any special item to add to an agenda.

2.SUMMARY OF ACTION ITEM :This is a summary of " what needs to be done"as a result of our discussions . I will do this summary often, but will sometimes ask others , to do it.Please do it on the same day of the meeting and distribute to all attendees. Each meeting will start by revisiting the Action Items of last meeting. When you give your presentation, please have the summary of last meeting in front of you and start by discussing the status, your thoughts, etc, about the Action Items that pertain to you.

  3. YOUR TALK:Please check your action items from the last meeting before your presentation. It helps a lot if you give me or Gabriel or Alberto the results you plan to present at least one day before your presentation. This can include graphs, tables, and a small explanation. This way we can think about your results and come prepared to discuss.Remember,we can not solve all the problems during the meeting, and prefer to do it before the meeting. In the meeting we just discuss the results, issues, problems, strategies of how to solve it.No need to send results earlier for Brain Storming discussions.Remember to bring to the meeting all relevant papers and notes,so we do not have to interrupt the meeting to go and get those. You may need to set up the room before the meeting,e,g place your results on the table in some order,or set up the LCD.Please do it before the meeting. Please help after the meeting to stack-up the chairs in their original place.
